About Me
  1. Dennis is the author of several journal articles and booklets in the field of disabilities but has never been able to kick the feeling that he was meant to make up things rather than analyze them. Bridging the gap between professional writing and fiction are his two books, Mount Holly: A Hometown Reinvented, and Parallel Communities: The Underground Railroad in South Jersey, both for History Press. A Christmas Conspiracy, a historical novel, is complete and available at Amazon and Kindle, and he has been piecing together a mystery series set in the US Civil War. He retired in 2010 and move to Ontario (Canada, not California) with his family. He's enjoying the inspirational surroundings very much.
  2. In addition to the tasks of managing twin 6-year-old girls, a crotchity Carin Terrier and new Doodle puppy, he tries valiantly to participate in the Orillia Community Kitchen effort as well as MWG.
  3. He goes to Barrie tomorrow (Dec 8 - a date which will live in Canadian infamy) to get his permanent resident status approved and his OHIP application will follow within a few minutes. Moooohahahaha - now I am legal - well, sort of.

Yes, the group has a reading portion to their monthly meetings. Everyone who has written something they wish to read, has an opportunity to do so--prose, poetry including chapters of a book you are writing.

Sometimes, however, when a chapter is read from a book, it is like walking into the middle of a movie. I have read chapters from one of my books and felt it was unfair to the book as well as the reader. Very difficult to give fair critiques when we don't know the before and after.

Hope this answers your question, Dennis.

Does the group review poems and novel chapters for critique?

Thank you for registering, Dennis. It is good the workshop has inspired you to do so.

You are welcome to join our meetings once a month. See our home page for location and time.
